Business Process Mapping

Business processes can range from very simple repeatable steps to a complex web of options that are scenario specific, but may feel at times like a choose your own adventure book. Either way the key to leveraging these to begin optimizing your business and team potential is to document them. Documenting your process not only makes it more easily and accurately repeatable, it also allows for new team members to learn the process and expectations quickly. Another way to think of this is as your most basic form or organizational communication, it's how you clearly communicate what you do.

There are three main hurdles that keep organizations from mapping out their processes:
1) It’s tedious and takes focused time and effort
2) Individuals feel protective and fearful of being judged
3) There’s not a consistent, repeatable process

None of these are actual blockers to better understanding and transparency within a team or an organization. In fact these are reasons why this should be seen as an opportunity to not only optimize your workflows, but also attract talent and grow your teams. Think of a new hire stepping into a role, there will always be a learning curve regardless of complexity but wouldn’t it make it a much easier transition for both this individual and your team with sound documentation?

Discovery

I have a extensive experience conducting business discovery across many industries and look forward to bring that to your teams. It is often best approached with a focused shadow period of observation and when available tacit knowledge through experience.

Document

Together we will create, review and approve SOPs and Work Instructions for each team or department. By building these into a cross-functional model, we will also be able to identify any process gaps across the organization.

Standardize

To ensure that we are all speaking in the same terms end to end with all of the workflows and process, I will build an index of terms used across your business in day to day functions. We will identify any discrepancies and align them for accuracy and consistency.

Implement

Implementation in this sense is not only enacting processes with your documented workflows that we develop, but also creating an easily managed version control system to allow them to adapt and scale as your business does. By creating RACIs for we will empower subject matter experts to share more easily and manage their knowledge base.
