Supply Chain of Self

The quality of your inputs determines and predicts your output — habits, character, attitudes, beliefs, and results. Commit to working different. Commit to changing something… to change itself. Commit to the process of ever-improving results.

Thomas Oppong

Each one of us has a vast, complex set of systems and networks within our bodies. Some of these function in very tangible and pragmatic rhythm or routine. While others are still far more theoretical and often perplexing in nature. Either way, in the information age our culture and societies still seldom view these as being deeply intertwined holistically and more often in silos of expertise.

What if we were to look at optimizing ourselves the way so approach business or successful systems within a company or industry? Now I’m not suggesting the translation of running your life, healthy and happiness like a lean startup nor a fatted calf corporation. Although I do believe that somewhere in between those two extremes, we can find a way to optimize our lives and in turn better tap into the need mindset to sustain our world and ourselves. We are made up of different departments that our brains act as the switchboard for between all of these systems. There are some pieces that we’ve come to now are obviously related and cross-functional in nature, but maybe we haven’t followed up or down stream to fully understand.

While most of us are probably not selling ourselves or ideas in any literal sense of the word, we are all probably often thinking about how to tell your story, “build your brand” and create something unique whether on our own or as part of a team or community. These outputs are our “products” that we sell or ship out into the world. But again, this is not meant to be just interpreted through just the lense or context of a business scenario. This is all built on a similar foundation supported by our natural systems and how they play into our personal lives as well. It is often too easy for us to silo things into the boxes of specific context that normalize them for our minds to focus.

The goal of the Supply Chain of Self is to break open the conversation and the constraints we put on the flow of our lives, our businesses and our potential. If we can begin to observe the interconnectedness withing the systems of self, wouldn’t it be wonderful to explore how that shifts our perspective and impact on the world around us? How much of our focus is forcing us to look forward with invisible blinders that may be a damper not only on our ability to adapt or change, but also our innate happiness with our life experience?

More to come…
