Milestones: This Year, I became an Ironman…

…in Madison Wisconsin, now what? I ran a “major” at the Chicago Marathon 4 weeks later. I shut down my business of two years and for the second time in my life stepped away from cooking and food in a professional setting (this time with a healthy albeit somewhat disappointing exit) – Something I love more than anything, but feel is not where I can have my greatest impact at this point in my life.

All of these are incredible things to be proud of and I am indeed! But without a doubt, we all feel a sense of uncertainty after we reach a milestone or goal. Something that we set what may seem so long ago without knowing for sure how we would get there and what the journey along the way would hold. It’s that bittersweet sense of accomplishment and unknowing what to tackle next. This is a place of transition that can be challenging to meet with reflection and gratitude when we feel we should keep on going, training and striving to grow.

As I look forward to 2019 there’s a new kind of uncertainty coming into play. How do I challenge myself and continue to grow while finding the motivation to stay engaged? What outrageous goals should I set to push that threshold of comfort, to move the needle just a touch more forward?

I have always been a get things done person when I direct my focus at a goal or intention. I have learned to shift and adapt when necessary and attempt to maintain the positive mindset and persistence that will move me forward. That is something that with certainty I know will continue to bring raw joy to my life.

How does one set goals when those that have most recently accomplished were in the not so distant past what seemed uncomfortable and mildly outrageous?

Become process-oriented, focused on the embrace of the journey. Knowing deep down that the results most orient themselves towards can only be attained by the process and trusting in it. This will build the true and genuine abundance our souls crave. It will allow me to not get lost in the planning or perception in trying to grasp and digest the big picture in every moment. The moments that build the process must become the focus of my joy, effort and focus. Bring those together with trust and filter the fluff; Find the shit that matters in each moment. Write that shit down to reflect on when you inevitably will face dark challenges along the way and let it shine brightly to reignite the flame of your desire.

I am currently in the process of settling into a goal planning mindset, still processing and digesting all of the amazing experiences and things this year has brought with abundance. I return to gratitude and unabashed potential and perseverance to set in place the foundation for another incredible year that surely will surprise myself over and over again.

How do you approach your goals and future endeavors?

What fears do you hold and will you allow them to hold you back?

Reflect with gratitude, make a plan, write that shit down and do everything you can to stay true and execute with (com)passion!
