When I started this year I had already set some pretty substantial goals, well outside of my normal comfort zone. I didn’t have any intention of not reaching them, but there is always that natural fear that hangs waiting in the wings. If we choose though that can be a source of drive, a healthy motivator to reach our goals and reveal to ourselves
that next level of our true character.
I like to choose a word, song or phrase to signify the attitude I’m going to carry with me through the journey. Something
simple and still powerful to cut through those moments of exhaustion, doubt and uncertainty. For 2018 it came to me very clearly
Perseverance: steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.
Going into the new year proud of the steps that had brought me to the beginning of many new opportunities including being a member of Wyn Republic’s inaugural Team Wyn 2018, it was sure to be a pivotal and powerful year of growth. I knew without a doubt there would be dark and difficult times ahead, but what I didn’t know is the strength of the community in my life that truly inspire and motivate me.
To start the year was a transition into a new role professionally, while slowly sunsetting the business that I had started with a bittersweet taste of gratitude. That journey was the first glimpse into navigating uncharted waters in many ways. The people I met and experiences shared will always be cherished. I also was starting the journey athletically to something I had never fathomed 4 years ago, my first Ironman 140.6.
Knowing there would be struggles, doubts and dark times ahead-perseverance was rock in my foundation I could return to with the intention of reminding myself I could do this. We often times find it easier to focus on the fear or anxiety we create by overthinking and un-framing our goals. It’s not that these are eliminated, but I focus on how I can acknowledge them and adapt.
I look forward to sharing recaps of the races from this past season and the training leading up to each one now that I have some time in the offseason. Each mile was made to matter in my own journey, but I would like to offer to share the experience if it can impact yours. To share the experience of persevering even in the days I wanted most to do anything but move forward is a gift. The people I’ve met along the way this year in racing and life are some of the most genuine human beings and whether they know it or not they inspire and motivate me to continue finding forward. This is just another reminder that you never know who’s impacted by your strength, positive attitude and the choice you make to show up everyday for yourself. I look forward to sharing this journey as I reflect and then look forward to an incredible 2019 (Season of Gratitude) with the honor of representing Wyn Republic again as a member of Team Wyn on the course and a human being always looking to build and grow.
